Franklin is a small village of approximately 2600 in Delaware County, which is located in the beautiful foothills of the Catskill Mountains. This region of dairy farms and forests and small, quaint towns also offers over 700 miles of streams for fishing and over 11,000 acres of reservoirs and other waterways for boating, canoeing, swimming and other water sports. In addition, there are miles and miles of scenic trails for hiking and mountain biking, including the Catskill Scenic Trail, a 19-mile "Rails to Trails" project that stretches from Grand Gorge in the northern end of the county to Bloomville, in the center of the county. For a more challenging ride, try the Plattekill Mountain Resort located on Route 30. The Catskill Mountains also offers challenging downhill skiing, and snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice-skating and more. Or, if you like to golf, Franklin County has several courses that run through scenic woods and ponds or with great views of the mountains. The region's rural heritage is celebrated year round with festivals, county fairs and other special events, and roadside stands and farm markets are full of fresh produce, eggs, apple cider, pumpkins and fresh maple syrup. Historic sites, such as a vintage train ride or a working saw mill give visitors a glimpse of bygone days and Franklin, as well as other nearby villages, offers unique shopping, antique stores and cozy restaurants.

Franklin Weather & Climate

The Catskills region region has cold, snowy winters and warm summers, but without the stifling, oppressive heat and humidity of some coastal areas. Normally, the hottest week of the year in the Catskills is the third week of July. September offers mild days and cool nights and October is a kaleidoscope of color in the Catskills. "Jack Frost" will likely make his first appearance in October in the region. November is unpredictable and with December comes colder temperatures and more moisture - either in the form of rain or snow. The full force of the winter season arrives in January and stays around until March in the Catskills. Average January temperatures are a good three to four degrees colder at elevations from one to two thousand feet and over seven degrees colder at over two thousand feet.
