Andes
is a small town located near the Catskill Mountains of Delaware County, New York. This is a peaceful, charming town with quaint shops, good restaurants, historic sites and lots of nearby outdoor recreational opportunities. Andes is the kind of place where you can be as active as you want - or be content to sit on the porch swing with a good book or take your time looking through the local antique shops. For those who like action, there is hiking, biking, and swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, horseback riding and golf. You can attend a country auction, a farmer's market or hike the woods looking for wild ginseng. If you visit in the fall, be sure to bring your camera because the colors are something you'll want to capture on film. Winter brings skiing, snowmobiling, sledding and snowshoeing in the mountains. Andes is host to an annual Strawberry Festival, Community Days Festival and Lumberjack Festival. It is near the county seat of Delhi and the city of Margaretville. The town of Andes is a great place to unwind and experience the beauty and charm of small town life in the Catskills.

The Catskills region region has cold, snowy winters and warm summers, but without the stifling, oppressive heat and humidity of some coastal areas. Normally, the hottest week of the year in the Catskills is the third week of July. September offers mild days and cool nights and October is a kaleidoscope of color in the Catskills. "Jack Frost" will likely make his first appearance in October in the region. November is unpredictable and with December comes colder temperatures and more moisture - either in the form of rain or snow. The full force of the winter season arrives in January and stays around until March in the Catskills. Average January temperatures are a good three to four degrees colder at elevations from one to two thousand feet and over seven degrees colder at over two thousand feet.
