Old-Forge
is a region of central New York located in Berkshire County. This is where many city dwellers from New York City and Boston have purchased second homes as a restful getaway destination. It is rural and peaceful in nature, yet near many modern conveniences and cultural activities. There are unlimited options for relaxation and fun in the Berkshires; seasonal festivals and fairs, theater and dance, fine dining, shopping, and antique shops galore. The Berkshire Botanical Garden is 15 acres of beautiful gardens and landscapes that is open daily May through October, and other nearby places of interest include the Norman Rockwell Museum and Hancock Shaker Village Museum. The weather in the Adirondack Mountains is unpredictable. The western Adirondacks can experience lake effect snowstorms as early as October, from Watertown to Old Forge and areas south. Most times, autumn is marked by warm days and crisp, cool nights. Winters are cold, cloudy and snowy, and summer days are warm and pleasant, with evenings of low humidity. In the higher elevations, summer evenings can be quite cool. Generally, there is no rainy season in the Adirondacks, but rather there are both wet and dry spells in every season. Although the weather in the Adirondacks can be variable, historically the area has not been subjected to the devastation of hurricanes, earthquakes and tornadoes that plague other parts of the country.
