Cranberry-Lake is located in the Adirondack Mountains, in one of the largest remote areas of the state. It sits in the heart of the Adirondacks State Park and is adjacent to 150,000 acres of forest preserve. Cranberry Lake is considered the gateway to the Five Ponds Wilderness area. The scenic lake offers fishing and boating, canoeing and kayaking and backcountry hiking. Boat tours of the lake are also available in the area. Cranberry Lake covers eleven square miles and has 55 miles of shoreline, of which over forty are state owned. The original lake was much smaller but nearly doubled in size in 1867 with the construction of a log crib dam. A concrete dam replaced the log crib dam in 1916. This is a good place for those looking for a secluded, quiet vacation destination because there is minimal civilization around the lake, and just to the south lie thousands of acres of rolling hills, thick forestlands, numerous lakes and ponds. On the lake, flows and bays extend in every direction, which offer refuge on windy days to those exploring the lake by boat or canoe. Many hiking trails originate along the lakeshore and meander through the forest to remote ponds and mountaintop overlooks with spectacular views of the lake and beyond. Cranberry Lake offers 46 campsites around the lake and a lodge is located on the lake, which contains an Adirondack style restaurant and pub.

Surrounding areas: Colton, New York (23.4 mi), Lake Bonaparte, New York (27.5 mi), Saranac Lake, New York (35.6 mi), Old Forge, New York (36.1 mi)

Cranberry Lake Weather & Climate

The weather in the Adirondacks  is unpredictable. Even though it is New York, the weather more closely resembles that of Vermont. A sunny day can turn into a rainy one; the temperature in May can be cool or climb to the low 90s. The snows start in September, but it is not unusual to experience an "Indian Summer" with warm days that extend into October. In general, however, summers are very pleasant with warm temperatures and low humidity, making it perfect for outdoor activities. In addition, the Adirondacks do not experience severe storms such as tornadoes or hurricanes like in other vacation spots in the country. Annual precipitation is around 39 inches, enough to keep the forests green and the streams flowing.
