Sacandaga-Lake
is approximately 35 minutes west of Lake George and Saratoga in the Adirondack Mountains of Hamilton County, east central New York. The lake was manmade in 1930 and today is a family-oriented tourist area. There are several boat launch areas on the lake, and families can enjoy swimming, fishing and other water sports and camping. Food vendors and bathroom facilities are also located on the beach. Surrounding Sacandaga Lake are many fine restaurants and accommodations that range from hotels and motels, bed and breakfast inns and vacation home rentals. There are also golf courses located near Sacandaga Lake and miniature golf for the kids. Every September the locals who live along the lakeside engage in a unique tradition. Each one lights a campfire near the waters edge, so that the entire lake is lined with shimmering light. To the locals, this tradition marks the end of summer and is a beautiful sight to witness. Hamilton County, where Sacandaga Lake is located, is one of the more rustic, sparsely populated parts of New York State, and visitors can enjoy exploring the country back roads and byways of the Adirondack Mountains without worrying about crowds or noise. Hamilton County is also sometimes called "Lake County," due to the large number of mountains lakes in the region.

The Adirondack Mountains has variable, unpredictable weather, but generally enjoys four seasons with winters marked by crisp, cold days and warm, pleasant summers with low humidity. In spring and fall, the days are warm and the evenings cool, adding to the beauty of the wildflowers of April and May and the brilliant colors of September and October. The average summer temperature is 75 F (24 C) and the average low is 50F (10 C); winter's average high is 27 F (-3 C) and the average low is 5 F (-15 C). The annual precipitation is 39 inches, keeping the forests green and the lakes and streams flowing. Luckily, the Adirondacks do not experience the harshness and devastation of tornadoes, earthquakes or hurricanes as do some other areas of the country. There is no specific rainy season, and lake effect snows can occur as early as late October or early November.
