Piseco-Lake is a beautiful, crystal clear mountain lake in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains in the northern part of the state. It's located in Hamilton County, which is one of the more rural, rustic parts of New York State. Hamilton, which is also called "Lake County," due to the large number of mountain lakes in the region, has always been sparsely populated. The primary lakes in Hamilton County are Piseco Lake, Great Sacandaga Lake, Peck's Lake, Caroga Lake, Canada Lake, Lake Pleasant, Indian Lake and Blue Mountain Lake. Piseco Lake is situated roughly in the central portion of this region, and is approximately 8 miles long and 2 miles across. It is primarily known for its' three state campgrounds, and also has an airport for general aviation planes and an Inn with a lodge, boat rentals and campsites. Nearby Panther Mountain has a nice one-mile hiking trail that is good for inexperienced climbers that gives breathtaking views of the lakes and mountains. It also offers more challenging climbs for the more skilled mountain climbers. Gore Mountain is a short drive from Piseco Lake and is popular for its wintertime skiing and other activities. Other recreational opportunities in the area include swimming, white-water rafting, kayaking and canoeing, mountain biking, and golf, cross country skiing and snowmobiling and ice fishing.

Piseco Lake Weather & Climate

The Adirondack Mountains has variable, unpredictable weather, but generally enjoys four seasons with winters marked by crisp, cold days and warm, pleasant summers with low humidity. In spring and fall, the days are warm and the evenings cool, adding to the beauty of the wildflowers of April and May and the brilliant colors of September and October. The average summer temperature is 75 F (24 C) and the average low is 50F (10 C); winter's average high is 27 F (-3 C) and the average low is 5 F (-15 C). The annual precipitation is 39 inches, keeping the forests green and the lakes and streams flowing. Luckily, the Adirondacks do not experience the harshness and devastation of tornadoes, earthquakes or hurricanes as do some other areas of the country. There is no specific rainy season, and lake effect snows can occur as early as late October or early November.
