Fillmore
is a hamlet located in Allegany County in western New York. It is situated where Cold Creek joins the Genesee River at the junction of County Road 4 and New York State Routes 19 and 19A. The village of Fillmore is just east of the town of Hume and north of Houghton. It is named after President Millard Fillmore. Beautiful Letchworth State Park is located just ten miles from Fillmore. This park, which has some of the most beautiful scenery in the U.S., is comprised of over 14,000 acres along the Genesee River. There are three major waterfalls within the park, including one which is 107 feet high. The cliffs in Letchworth State Park, which were created by the river over thousands of years, reach heights of 600 feet. Camping is popular at Letchworth State Park, and other activities include swimming, fishing, rafting, canoeing, hiking and hot air ballooning. Special events take place in the park all year long, including lectures and guided walks. Other things to do in the Fillmore area include golf, antiquing, and wintertime skiing, tubing and snowmobiling. Niagara Falls is approximately a two hour drive from the village of Fillmore.

Fillmore Weather & Climate

A four-season climate with lots of snow in winter and pleasant summers describes the weather in western New York near Buffalo. In summer, sunshine is plentiful and humidity levels are moderate. The stabilizing effect of Lake Erie helps inhibit thunderstorms and enhance sunshine in the immediate Buffalo area, and also modifies the extreme heat that approaches from the Ohio Valley. Winters in the region are generally cloudy, cold and snowy, but are changeable, and often include rain and frequent thaws. Over half of the annual snowfall comes from "lake effect" snows and is very localized. The average date of the last frost is near the end of April in the Buffalo metro area, but in mid May further inland. Autumn is often one of the sunniest seasons of the year and very pleasant. Cold fronts from Canada become common in late October and the first measurable snow is usually in mid November.
