Angelica is the oldest town in Allegany County, located at Exit 31 on I-86 in the Southern Tier of Western New York State. As of the 2000 census, it had a population of 1,411 residents. There is also a village called Angelica that is located in the center of the town. Angelica was first settled around 1802 and the town was formed in 1805, with Angelica Village incorporating in 1835. Called "A Town Where History Lives," over 100 historic homes and buildings are located in Angelica, with most of them listed on the National Historic Register. The village of Angelica centers on the historic Park Circle, which is complete with a Victorian bandstand and community croquet court. The town is also filled with antique shops, collectibles shops, fine restaurants and cafes. Special events in town include a Community Yard Sale held the 3rd weekend in May and the Heritage Days celebration, usually held the first full weekend in August. For outdoor recreation, Angelica offers canoeing down the Genesee River, hiking, biking and snowmobiling on forest trails, boating and fishing the region's pristine lakes, wildlife viewing and exploring the scenic countryside.

Angelica Weather & Climate

A four-season climate with lots of snow in winter and pleasant summers describes the weather in western New York near Buffalo. In summer, sunshine is plentiful and humidity levels are moderate. The stabilizing effect of Lake Erie helps inhibit thunderstorms and enhance sunshine in the immediate Buffalo area, and also modifies the extreme heat that approaches from the Ohio Valley. Winters in the region are generally cloudy, cold and snowy, but are changeable, and often include rain and frequent thaws. Over half of the annual snowfall comes from "lake effect" snows and is very localized. The average date of the last frost is near the end of April in the Buffalo metro area, but in mid May further inland. Autumn is often one of the sunniest seasons of the year and very pleasant. Cold fronts from Canada become common in late October and the first measurable snow is usually in mid November.
