Narrowsburg is called the "Eagle Capital of New York State." Located on the scenic Delaware River between the Catskill and Pocono Mountains, Narrowsburg is a small town surrounded by rolling hills, lush forests and many lakes and streams. Canoeing and rafting is very popular on the Delaware River, and hikers also come to Narrowsburg to trek the newly opened Tusten Mountain Trail. Other recreational opportunities in the area include fishing and boating and, of course, birdwatching. The Upper Delaware/Catskill region is home to over 150 Bald Eagles each winter from January through March, migrating here from Canada for the open water and fresh fish. In spring, most migrating birds return to their nesting habitats, but in recent years, more and more eagles have made Narrowsburg their permanent home, often using the same nest year after year. Each January, the town celebrates the return of the eagle with the Narrowsburg EagleFest. Viewing of the eagles is available with assistance by the Narrowsburg Eagle Institute Volunteers. The town also has a strong arts community and is home to the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the Delaware Valley Opera and the Tusten Theater. The charming and historic town of Callicoon is located just a few miles from Narrowsburg and is home to an old-fashioned Street Fair, usually held in July.

Narrowsburg Weather & Climate

The Catskill Mountains  has a climate with many variations depending on the elevation. There is a totally different winter in the mountains and the higher plateaus over 1,000 feet. There, the grip of winter is strong and steady, and above freezing temperatures are less common. Average January temperatures are three to four degrees colder at elevations from one to two thousand feet and over seven degrees colder at elevations above two thousand feet. Snowfall is fairly uniform during the month of January in the Catskills. The third week of July is generally the hottest time of the year in the Catskills, and rainfall during the warm months is usually confined to a few days rather than spread throughout the month. September has warm days, cool nights and fog at dawn over the Hudson valley. By October the hills are a kaleidoscope of color, and the first hard freeze is usually at the end of October.
