Liberty
is a historic town of approximately 9,600 residents located in Sullivan County in New York's Catskills. The town is credited with providing 303 men who fought in the American Revolution. When settlers first came to the area, they settled to the northwest of the present village at Revonah Lake, formerly known as Broadhead Pond. Some of the oldest remains of the town are the laid up stones that can be found in the outlet of Revonah Lake, which were probable placed there in 1797 as part of the first sawmill in the area. Today, the peaceful village of Liberty has lots to offer both residents and visitors. The town has two beautiful parks, Walnut Mountain Park and Hanofee Park, which provide hiking trails, fishing, biking, cross-country skiing, volleyball, tennis, picnicking - or just relaxing. The Liberty Main Street Stage is the focal point of the village and the site of many special events - such as the summer "Concerts at Liberty Main Street Stage." Other special events in town include a Civil War Enactment, Fireworks in the Park, which is an annual event in August that turns Hanofee Park into an arts and crafts fair, with games, music and a spectacular display of fireworks. Liberty also holds an annual Easter Egg Hunt for children and a Halloween Parade.

The Hudson Valley Region, which generally refers to the canyon area of the Hudson River and surrounding communities in New York State, has a four-season climate. The first significant snowfall usually occurs in December, but there are variations. Some years there is no snow or ice and the temperatures and river stays quite mild - high 40s to low 50s. March is the month to look for the first signs of spring. Summers in the Hudson Valley are hazy, warm and humid. September can be a mixed bag of clear, cool Canadian air or humid, warm air with intense downpours. October is one of the best months in the region for hiking and other outdoor sports. The weather is cooler and less humid then, with crisp, clear views of the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, the Catskills and the Hudson Highlands.
