Orient-Point is located on the easternmost end of Long Island. Orient is a hamlet located near the point that has a population of around 700 residents. Orient and Orient Point are used interchangeably, but Orient Point specifically refers to the very tip of the North Fork on the island. The hamlet of Orient lies immediately next to it. Orient Point is known for its' excellent fishing charters and ferry service between Connecticut and New York. The Orient Point (Coffee Pot) Lighthouse is located here, situated on the rocks just to the east of Orient Point. The village of Orient Point offers several "tourist" shops, a post office and gas station. There is no commercial district in the town and residents do most of their shopping in nearby Greenport. Orient Point is known as a quiet summer resort town for those looking for an alternative to the Hamptons. All types of outdoor recreational activities are available here, including swimming, fishing, snorkeling and diving, sailing, boating, water skiing, windsurfing, kayaking, shelling, winery tours and golf. There is an excellent bike trail that runs from Greenport to Orient Point along a narrow peninsula that offers views of both sea and fertile farmlands. Nearby, the village of Greenport offers many shops and galleries and a wide variety of restaurants, pubs, cafes and delis.

Orient Point Weather & Climate

Long Island enjoys a four-season, moderate climate, given its relatively northern latitude-which makes it a pleasant place to visit year-round. It is the largest island adjoining the continental United States, extending approximately 118 miles east-northeast from the mouth of the Hudson River, adjacent to Manhattan Island. Winters tend to be unpredictable and summers can be warm and muggy, but offshore breezes help moderate temperatures. Spring and fall are the best times to visit, when temperatures are mild. March tends to be rainy, but temperatures stay above freezing. April's warming temperatures makes it more comfortable and May is generally a gorgeous month on Long Island, weather wise. September to November is pleasant and mild, and the changing leaves make it a beautiful time to visit.
