Greenport is a historic seaside village, tucked amid vineyards and farmland on the North Fork of Long Island. This quaint town has the distinction of being the second village in the state of New York to incorporate (in 1838.) Today it's a tourist hot spot and famous for its' fine dining, unique retail establishments, attractions and nightlife. Things to do in Greenport include sailing on a 100 year old schooner to learn about the local maritime history, cruise to an offshore lighthouse, go deep sea fishing, visit the maritime and railroad museums, tour an authentically furnished 19th century home, or enjoy the waterfront from Harbor Walk. Mitchell Park in Greenport overlooks the harbor and has an outdoor amphitheater, boardwalk and public docks. The highlight of the park, however, is the 40-foot, 1920s carousel that was donated to the village in 1995 by Northrop-Grumman. Greenport also hosts an annual Maritime Festival in September. You'll find many galleries, shops and stores, including a ships chandlery in Greenport, and an eclectic mix of restaurants, from dining on fresh seafood in a historic restaurant on the waterfront, to a mix of pubs, cafes and delis. Lodging is everything from cozy bed & breakfasts to contemporary hotels. There's something for everyone in historic Greenport.

Greenport Weather & Climate

Long Island enjoys a four-season, moderate climate, given its relatively northern latitude-which makes it a pleasant place to visit year-round. It is the largest island adjoining the continental United States, extending approximately 118 miles east-northeast from the mouth of the Hudson River, adjacent to Manhattan Island. Winters tend to be unpredictable and summers can be warm and muggy, but offshore breezes help moderate temperatures. Spring and fall are the best times to visit, when temperatures are mild. March tends to be rainy, but temperatures stay above freezing. April's warming temperatures makes it more comfortable and May is generally a gorgeous month on Long Island, weather wise. September to November is pleasant and mild, and the changing leaves make it a beautiful time to visit.
