Henderson-Harbor
is located along Lake Ontario in the beautiful Thousand Islands Seaway region of New York. Samuel DeChamplain first discovered this area in the year 1615. The first settlers arrived from Vermont and New Hampshire in the early 1800s and by 1875, the town of Henderson Harbor had become a fishing and vacation resort village. Today, the spot where Champlain first set foot is surrounded by lovely marinas and a short distance further down shore is the Henderson Harbor Yacht Club. With its' picturesque town mooring filled with large and small sailboats, Henderson Harbor is considered one of the prettiest resort areas in the country. Henderson Harbor is also known as one of the premier fishing spots on Lake Ontario. Depending on the season, there is trophy quality fishing for Brown Trout, Walleye, King Salmon, Lake Trout, Smallmouth and Pike. The Stony Point Lighthouse is located on Lighthouse Road in Henderson Harbor, built in 1869, with a 73-foot tower and attached keeper's dwelling. This lighthouse replaces the one originally built in 1830 and is a privately owned residence. The Thousand Islands region offers all types of outdoor recreational opportunities, including boating and sailing, white water rafting, swimming, water skiing, windsurfing, hiking, biking and more. The nearby town of Sackets Harbor holds outdoor concerts beside the lake during the summer months, and is home to a well-known Can-Am Festival. Other nearby attractions include the Sacket's Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site and the Seaway Trail Discovery Center.

The Thousand Island region has a varied climate, depending on location and elevation. Generally, The Thousand Islands has average January temperatures ranging from 14 degrees to 22 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer temps average between 68 and 72 degrees. Precipitation in the region ranges from 36 to 40 inches of rain and snowmelt. There is plenty of sunshine in the summertime and low to moderate humidity levels. Lake-effect snow occurs when cold air crosses the relatively warm lake waters and becomes saturated, creating clouds and precipitation downwind. The location of these snowbands is determined by the direction of the wind. Due to the prevailing winds, areas south of Buffalo receive much more lake-effect snow than locations to the north. New York does not experience devastating storms such as tornadoes or hurricanes, as do other parts of the country.
