Mattituck is a village of approximately 4,100, located on the North Fork of Long Island in the midst of the island's wine country. Mattituck is one of the small communities actually located within the town of Southold. Here you'll find peaceful vineyards and historic farms and a maritime heritage that residents strive to maintain. The North Fork is home to more than two dozen wineries, uncrowded beaches, lots of antique shops, and farmstands with locally grown produce and wonderful seafood restaurants. Swimming, fishing, boating, picnicking, tennis and golf are all available in the area, and Mattituck is home to a Strawberry Festival each June. Other points of interest on the North Fork include a maritime museum in neighboring Greenport, shipbuilding and yacht racing, tall ships exhibits, the Big Duck Museum, the famous Sag Harbor Whaling Museum, the Montauck Point Lighthouse, the Horton Point Lighthouse/Nautical Museum and the Hook Windmill. Many of the wineries are open for tours and wine tastings, and some host weddings and other special events throughout the year. The Suffolk County Marine Environmental Learning Center near Mattituck features a hands-on touch tank with local marine species, a beach and salt marsh, hiking, kayaking and environmental education talks.

Mattituck Weather & Climate

Long Island enjoys a four-season, moderate climate, given its relatively northern latitude-which makes it a pleasant place to visit year-round. It is the largest island adjoining the continental United States, extending approximately 118 miles east-northeast from the mouth of the Hudson River, adjacent to Manhattan Island. Winters tend to be unpredictable and summers can be warm and muggy, but offshore breezes help moderate temperatures. Spring and fall are the best times to visit, when temperatures are mild. March tends to be rainy, but temperatures stay above freezing. April's warming temperatures makes it more comfortable and May is generally a gorgeous month on Long Island, weather wise. September to November is pleasant and mild, and the changing leaves make it a beautiful time to visit.
