Manhattan hardly needs an introduction. Known the world over as "The Big Apple," Manhattan is one of five boroughs of New York City, and one of the largest cities in the world, famous for its museums, Broadway shows, five star restaurants, diverse cultural communities and spectacular shopping - not to mention the incredible nightlife. It's basically divided into the following sections: Lower Manhattan and New York Harbor, Midtown Manhattan and Upper Manhattan. Manhattan is one of the most desirable most visited destinations in the world. Visit Chinatown, Little Italy, Greenwich Village; walk the Brooklyn Bridge and spend a day in Central Park. The trendy historic district of SoHo has the greatest concentration of cast-iron architecture in the U.S. and is home to dozens of art galleries, restaurants and shops. No place else in the world is quite like New York. There are more than 150 world-class museums, 18,000 restaurants and unbelievable shopping choices. First time visitors will want to see the Statue of Liberty, ride the Staten Island Ferry, soak up the atmosphere in Greenwich Village and SoHo, and explore the South Street Seaport, which has great views of the Brooklyn Bridge and lots of shopping and restaurants on the water. Taking a tour on a double-decker bus is a good idea. An inexpensive way to see the city is with a self-guided walking tour through the various ethnic neighborhoods that offer intriguing shops and restaurants. Manhattan has attractions just for kids, too, so whether it's a family vacation or a weekend getaway for two - it's one of a kind vacation destination.

Manhattan Weather & Climate

Manhattan and the surrounding area have four seasons of changeable weather. Summers are often hot and muggy and last until September. Temperatures usually soar to near 100 degrees F. for a week to ten days in mid-July to mid-August. Another uncomfortable time to visit New York City is during January and February when temps are often in the 20s and the concrete canyons of the city can turn into wind tunnels. Otherwise, the rest of the year the weather is comfortable, with March usually being the rainiest month. May offers great weather - just warm enough for walking around but cool enough to remain comfortable. Autumn has more sunshine than spring, although both are clear and bright. New York City is magical at Christmas time and the changing leaves of fall makes it a beautiful time to visit the area.
