Garrison is located on the Hudson River in southeastern New York, almost directly across from the West Point Military Academy. It was, at one time, the site of an important ferry crossing on the river until the construction of the Bear Mountain Bridge. An interesting fact about the town is that it was the filming location of the 1969 movie, "Hello Dolly." Located approximately one hour due north of New York City, the town of Garrison is nestled in a serene mountain setting. Outdoor recreational activities are abundant and include hiking and biking, boating and fishing, golf, tennis, wildlife viewing, birdwatching, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking and swimming. The Constitution Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary is located on Indian Brook Road in Garrison, and is operated by the National Audubon Society. This 200-acre sanctuary is open to visitors who can either canoe the marsh or enjoy it from the boardwalk. Other attractions in the town of Garrison include The Garrison Art Center, the 19th century Boscobel Restoration Museum and Manitoga, which is an ecologically designed home situated on 80 acres with lovely views of the Hudson River, that offers hiking and picnicking. Garrison is also just four miles to the village of Cold Spring, which is known for its many antique shops, boutiques and good restaurants.

Garrison Weather & Climate

The Hudson Valley ,which generally refers to the canyon area of the Hudson River and surrounding communities in New York State, has a four-season climate. The first significant snowfall usually occurs in December, but there are variations. Some years there is no snow or ice and the temperatures and river stays quite mild - high 40s to low 50s. March is the month to look for the first signs of spring. Summers in the Hudson Valley are hazy, warm and humid. September can be a mixed bag of clear, cool Canadian air or humid, warm air with intense downpours. October is one of the best months in the region for hiking and other outdoor sports. The weather is cooler and less humid then, with crisp, clear views of the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, the Catskills and the Hudson Highlands.
